Institute of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics

Founded in 2010, the Institute of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at the School of Foreign languages in Peking University is a teaching and research entity for linguistics. Its faculty includes three professors (two retired but still academically active), two associate professors, one lecturer, and one assistant professor. In addition, three professors and two associate professors from the Department of English Language and Literature recruit students of linguistics under this institute. From the fall of 2011, the institute begins to recruit postgraduates in linguistics and applied linguistics at both MA and PhD levels.

The Institute has three major directions of research—theoretical linguistics, sociolinguistics and modern foreign language education.

The Institute is committed to equipping students with a solid theoretical foundation in linguistics and its related fields, systematic research skills and a clear vision of the research front, so as to become competent specialists in linguistics.
