On 16 September, the unveiling ceremony for the sculpture donated by Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) was held at the School of Foreign Languages (SFL). The ceremony was attended, on the Russian side, by H.E. Andrey Denisov, Russian Ambassador to China, Vladimir Eremin, First Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Public Administration of MSU, and Gregory Pototsky, well-known artist and sculptor and, on the Chinese side, Li Yansong, Vice President of Peking University and Secretary of the Party Committee of the SFL, Xia Hongwei, Director of the Office of International Relations of Peking University, Ning Qi, Dean of the SFL, Li Shujing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the SFL, and Prof. Li Wei from the Department of Russian Language and Literature. The ceremony was chaired by Vice Dean Li Shujing. Representatives of the faculty and students of the Department of Russian Language and Literature and other guests from both sides were also present.
Vice President Li Yansong addressed the ceremony on behalf of PKU. He pointed out that the prototype of the sculpture, the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, were torchbearers of the Slavic nation and creators of the Cyrillic alphabet, who laid foundation of the Cyrillic letters and the Russian civilization. In creating this fine sculpture, Mr. Pototsky had integrated his penetrating views about the Slav history, the Russian culture and the world as well as his philosophical thoughts into his ingenious creation. And harboring his profound feelings for the Chinese people and PKU, he donated this piece of art to the SFL through the Faculty of Public Administration of MSU, which boosts the cooperation between the two world famous universities and contributes to cultural exchanges between the two countries. Vice President Li expressed his heartfelt appreciation to them as well as PKU’s readiness to further cooperation with them for the progress and prosperity of human civilization.

Ambassador Andrey Denisov remarked that the donation represented the deep friendship between the two world-class universities and the fruit of cultural and people-to-people cooperation of the two countries. He looked forward to more cooperation in width and depth between the two universities in the future.

Prof. Vladimir Eremin noted that the friendly ties between MSU and PKU go back to the academic exchanges in the 1950s and blossom in recent years in the area of culture and people-to-people exchange. He hoped that, going forward, his Faculty would enjoy more cooperation with PKU.

Mr. Pototsky, Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts and a donator of more than 100 sculptures to more than 40 countries, said that China is a great and forward-looking nation. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of youth and Communists play a tremendous role in social development. He appreciated that the unveiling ceremony could be held in PKU, one of the leading universities in China, which rendered more significance to this event.

At the end of the ceremony, the guests unveiled the sculpture and took a group photo. The ceremony concluded with Vice President Li Yansong and Dean of the SFL Ning Qi awarding Prof. Eremin and Mr. Pototsky with letters of appreciation and souvenirs.
