The Australian National University has a 70-year history as an institution with an international reputation for excellence in research and education. The Australian National University wishes to appoint a Head, China Representative Office to be based in Beijing. ANU is seeking an experienced international education professional with experience representing foreign institutions operating within China. Working with a considerable degree of autonomy, the Head will collaborate and work collegially with members of the ANU Division of Student Recruitment and Admissions and the International Strategy and Partnerships Unit to achieve key objectives in the ANU China Strategy. The overall objective of the office and position is to build and maintain partnerships with agents, alumni, schools, universities and government in China.

 

The ANU has entered into a contract with the Australian Chamber of Commerce (AustCham) in Beijing to provide a legal and administrative framework for the employment of its in-country representatives in China.

 

Duties

 

Recruitment

 

·         Play a key role in the development of the ANU China Strategy

·         Management of key relationships including recruitment agents, Study Group Australia, and Austrade.

·         Representing ANU at student recruitment fairs and school visits and organisation of stand-alone recruitment events

·         Market research in China for the purpose of student recruitment

·         Social Media promotion of University via social media channels, under the direction of the ANU Marketing Office

·         Admissions liaison point and advisory for both ANU Canberra and prospective students

·         Logistical support for incoming ANU recruitment staff

 

Partnership

·         Support the development of new partnership opportunities

·         Provision of market intelligence and advice on strategic partnership opportunities

·         Relationship management of partner universities in relation to the following activity areas:

o   Articulations and joint/double degrees

o   Student exchange and Study Abroad

 

·         Relationship management of key government agencies and scholarship bodies, including:

o   Ministry of Education

o   Ministry of Science and Technology

o   China Scholarships Council

 

·         Logistical support for high-level visits from ANU, including:

o   Setting up meetings

o   Organising translation services for meetings

 

Selection Criteria

 

           A university degree, preferably from an Australian university, with extensive demonstrated experience and knowledge about Australian higher education; or an equivalent combination of education/training, professional marketing, and experience and knowledge about Australian higher education. An ANU degree would be an advantage.

 

           Extensive knowledge and understanding of the international student market and the higher education sector, particularly in China.

 

           Proven highly developed oral and written communications skills in both Mandarin and English, including the ability to make effective presentations and produce high quality written documents and reports.

 

           Demonstrated initiative and drive and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

           A willingness to undertake extensive domestic travel and some overseas travel on behalf of the University.

 

           Demonstrated capacity to provide strong and effective leadership including the ability to set directions, determine strategies and be outcomes focused.
