On the morning of May 19, a delegation representing the Central Students’ Union of Dhaka University, Bangladesh, visited Peking University and held discussions with PKU faculty and student representatives at the New Sun Student Center.
The meeting was chaired by Wang Xu, Executive Deputy Director of the Center for South Asian Studies at PKU and Associate Professor in the Department of South Asian Studies, School of Foreign Languages. Wang Xu briefed the visiting students on the Center’s mission and its recent efforts to promote China-Bangladesh cooperation in education, cultural exchange, and youth engagement. He noted the long history of interactions between the two countries, emphasizing that meaningful youth exchange goes beyond textbooks and classrooms—it flourishes through face-to-face dialogue that fosters mutual understanding and friendship. He encouraged the students to use this visit as a starting point for candid conversations about campus life, cultural traditions, and future aspirations, and to build connections through warm, sincere exchanges, adding a youthful vibrancy to China-Bangladesh relations.
During the discussion session, students shared their own campus experiences and personal stories, engaging in lively dialogue on topics such as how traditional culture can resonate with young people, how national spirit is reflected in daily academic and social life, how to cultivate a sense of commitment to one’s country and a global vision during university years, and how young people from China and Bangladesh can contribute to the development of bilateral relations. The atmosphere was relaxed yet spirited, punctuated by laughter and applause. Through questions and answers, the sharing of perspectives, and the exchange of experiences, students from both sides gained a more vivid understanding of each other’s countries, cultures, and youth life.
