Profile

Dr. CHENG Mo (Silvano) obtained both his L.M and Ph.D. cum Laude in Science of Text – Romance Philology from University of Rome “La Sapienza”. Currently he is Assistant Professor, vice director of the Department of European Languages and Literatures, director of the Undergraduate program of Italian Language and Literature, School of Foreign Languages, Peking University.     

Postdoctoral researcher in Peking University from 2020-22, before that he was lecturer of Italian and assistant dean of the Sino-Italian Campus of Tongji University. From 2012 to 2016 he worked as assistant to Counsellor of Education of the Chinese Embassy in Rome.

His researches mainly focus on European medieval literature in romance languages, with a particular interest in works of Dante Alighieri and Francesco Petrarca, through traditional philological approach and under the scope of the digital humanities. He is also interested in the history of translation and reception of European medieval literature in China. Translator of Claudio Magris, Alessandro Baricco and various other Italian authors, he is the first translator of Andrea Camilleri in China and published the second novel of the series Montalbano: Il Cane di Terracotta.
